Hello everyone,
Welcome to the 120th edition of Cannabinoids & the People, Lex Pelger’s free weekly digest of all the new cannabinoid science + assorted canna-news & psychedelic updates. Upgrade to a paid subscription here to support my work sharing canna-science. On the cannabinoids, ask me anything.
Editor’s note:
Besides finding a full-time sponsor for this newsletter, what I want to do the most is start a podcast for a canna-company who wants to spread the education & widen their audience. Hosting a podcast is one of the things I’m best at in the world & now that my youngest is 3 years old, I think I’m ready to end my podcasting pause & get back to interviewing intriguing people. Let me know if a great cannabis show would appeal to your organization.

Dose-dependent effects of oral cannabidiol and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol on serum anandamide and related N-acylethanolamines in healthy volunteers
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39182921/
“CBD-led increases in AEA (1.6-fold), OEA and PEA (1.4-fold) were observed following a single 800 mg (pcorr<0.05) but not 600 mg dosage. Declining AEA was observed with Δ9-THC at 10 mg (-1.3-fold) and 20 mg (-1.4-fold) but restored to baseline levels by 160 min. CBD+Δ9-THC yielded the highest increases in AEA (2.1-fold), OEA (1.9-fold) and PEA (1.8-fold) without reaching a maximal response.”
In a related study, in 300 people randomly assigned to products dominant in THC, CBD or both, this research measured the effects on their endocannabinoid levels

https://www.mdpi.com/1424-8247/17/10/1335
“The findings suggest that AEA levels do not change differently based on 4 weeks of cannabis use or by cannabinoid content, as AEA similarly increased across all conditions from study weeks 2 to 4. In contrast, AEA decreased at an acute administration session with product conditions containing any THC having greater AEA levels on average than the non-use condition. With regard to 2-AG, its levels appeared to primarily be affected by THC-dominant use, both acutely and over 4 weeks, when controlling for baseline cannabis use and examining study product use frequency among use conditions.”

PS: For today’s happy tunes, Jerry Byrd’s album ‘Steel Guitar Hawaiian Style’. Although well-known in the country music world for his playing of the lap steel guitar, Byrd had an abounding interest in Hawaiian music from the time of his childhood in Ohio. He first joined the Grand Ole Opry in the 1940s & then over the next 20 years, he was the first person to sign Dolly Parton, he gave guitar lessons to Jerry Garcia & he recorded with Patsy Cline, Red Foley & Hank Williams. But by the early ‘70s, he could finally move to Hawaii & work with the movement reviving the Hawaiian steel guitar. He stayed there for 30 years & gave lessons to any young musicians interested in the style. When the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame opened in 1978, he was the first member inducted.
