Hello everyone,
Welcome to the 127th edition of Cannabinoids & the People, Lex Pelger’s free weekly digest of all the new cannabinoid science + assorted canna-news & psychedelic updates. Upgrade to a paid subscription here to support my work sharing canna-science. On the cannabinoids, ask me anything.
Editor’s note: new sponsor!
I’m pleased to present our new full-time sponsor: the Cannabis & Health Research Initiative. Make sure to give them a follow on IG & to make a cool 100 bucks by sharing your cannabis knowledge to their scientific study.
Also, for a new monthly supporter, many thanks to Mona Zhang, my old journalism buddy & now the illustrious cannabis policy reporter for Politico. She shouldn’t have to pay because she is already doing the Good Work with her reporting, but if any of the rest of you want to support this newsletter, you can subscribe here to allow me more time to report this cannabis science & spread it widely.
Lastly on scheduling, my plan is to have this newsletter waiting for you Tuesday mornings. But with two kids & two other newsletters to run for my business, I’m giving myself the grace to have them come out whenever it happens. When these kids get sick, I don’t want to be stressed about delivery schedules. So from now on, this free newsletter will get to you at just the right time.

However, for the year to come, with the TikTok ban & thinking about my priorities, I think I’ll take inspiration from this piece about companionship content & start focusing on making longer, slower pieces for YouTube. Maybe call it “An Hour with Lex in the Books” & just spend some time talking about what I’m reading, moving around piles of books or talking with old friends. Less pressure, no editing or captions. Just putting out longer content that my kids might like to watch in ten or twenty years if I get hit by a bus.
So still playing with the idea, but happy to hear any feedback if you have it.

PS: For today’s magical music from the Subcontinent, Debashish Bhattacharya’s Grammy-nominated album ‘Calcutta Chronicles: Indian Slide-Guitar Odyssey’. A musical prodigy of Kolkata who was playing on All India Radio by the age of 4, he studied classical guitar under his father for the next 20 years & developed his own personal style. By the age of 21, he was given the President of India award. His attention turned to the Hawaiian slide guitar & he started tinkering with it to make it more compatible with Indian music until he came up with a 24-stringed-instrument & created the new genre of Hindustani slide guitar. He began performing with musicians across the globe, taught his new instrument to over 1,000 students & now continues to innovate with new instruments & new collaborations. Plus, in a move that warms my heart, he named his small ukelele-type four-string slide guitar after his daughter Anandi.
