PS: For this week’s island music from the undisputed Calypso Queen, the album ‘So Calypso!’ by Calypso Rose. Hailing from Trinidad & Tobago. she wrote her first calypso song in 1955. She recorded her first song in 1963 & won the Calypso King competition, the first woman to do so. In 2019, she became the oldest artist to perform at Coachella. Still performing, she’s written over 1,000 songs, recorded more than 20 albums & used her songs to address social issues like racism & sexism.
