Cannabis and sleep architecture: A systematic review and meta-analysis
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1087079225001170
“Findings indicate that cannabis administration does not consistently alter sleep duration, latency, wake time, efficiency, or sleep staging. While early studies suggested reductions in rapid eye movement sleep, these were primarily based on small-scale trials with high tetrahydrocannabinol doses and significant methodological limitations. More recent studies using larger samples and lower therapeutic doses of tetrahydrocannabinol have reported mixed (and often no) evidence of rapid eye movement (REM) suppression, and the evidence base remains very limited. However, withdrawal from active cannabis use was consistently associated with sleep disturbances, including reduced total sleeping times and prolonged sleep onset latency, as well as REM rebounds.”

I think that this makes a lot of sense based on what we know about how immunotherapy & the cannabinoids work. If I knew someone diagnosed with cancer, I would recommend that they do two weeks of huge doses under a cannabis healthcare professional & then go about their regular cancer treatments. But I wouldn’t combine them unless you really needed symptom relief from the traditional treatment. And even then, keep the levels of use as low as you can.

PS: From the pioneering jazz soloist, the album ‘Sidney Bechet 1923-1936’. A master of the soprano saxophone & clarinet, Sidney Bechet helped to birth the improvisational nature of New Orlean jazz. As a child his talent on the clarinet developed so quickly that he was soon playing with some of the top bands in the city. By his 20s, he was on tour in Europe. It was there he found his first soprano saxophone in a store & it became his main instrument for the rest of his life. In 1919, the Swiss classical music conductor, Ernest Ansermet, wrote a Bechet tribute that was one of the earliest articles by a classical music expert on a figure from jazz, linking Bechet’s music with that of Bach. And Duke Ellington later called him “the epitome of jazz”.
Bechet’s recording debut was in 1923 (a few months before Louis Armstrong, as all the jazz historians note) & he spent much of the next years on the road, going as far as Russia & getting in as much trouble as a deportation from France (during a street brawl with fellow musicians, he pulled out his pistol, started shooting wildly & hit a couple of bystanders. He spent a year in jail, but funnily enough, when he returned to France in the late ‘40s, they loved him so much that he settled there for the rest of his life. They referred to him simply as ‘le dieu’” (the god)). In 1932, his hit recording of ‘Summertime’ took him to the top of the charts. By 1939, he was recording some of the earliest versions of what would be known as Latin jazz (incorporating méringue, rhumba & Haitian music into jazz). His dictated autobiography ‘Treat It Gentle’ is a staple of an insider’s view of early jazz, though Al Rose, who he dictated it to, said that he saw a different side of Bechet: “The kindly old gentleman in his book was filled with charity and compassion. The one I knew was self-centered, cold, and capable of the most atrocious cruelty, especially toward women.” Bechet died of lung cancer near Paris at the age of 62.
