No, Gary shot himself in the side of the head, by the ear. It does sound suspicious that someone would be able to shoot themselves in the head twice, but it is the case for around 5% of gunshot suicides. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiple_gunshot_suicide
I don't think Gary was murdered. He may have been provoked into suicide as a target of a gaslighting operation. But perhaps being blacklisted as a journalist- the only profession he had ever known- was gaslighting enough, in itself. The findings of his investigation were overwhelmingly accurate, of course.
